FoSIBLE
There is no reason for older people in Europe to miss out on the benefits of new technologies. The solutions and services resulting from this program will help them to remain active in society as well as staying socially connected and independent for a longer time, [...] (Viviane Reding zum AAL-JP)
Due to the loss of companionship over the time, many elderly people become isolated and depressed. An impaired social life may also have negative impacts on the general health status. According to the World Health Organization the loss of companionship is one of the central issues that elderly people are facing today.
The research group “Interactive Systems and Interaction Design” is project coordinator for FoSIBLE. FoSIBLE is part of the founded Ambient Assisted Living Joint Program (AAL-JP) – Call 2. Project Partners come from nine european research facilities and enterprises. The project aims at development of a social-network platform for elderly people and thereby improving the quality of life by offering an easy solution to avoid isolation.
To support social interaction our team is planning the development of different applications, which are meant to offer basic services for the elderly. Those will be summoned in TV-based Social Media Center, which is a technology that supports communication and interaction in the context of the television infrastructure, using entertainment console and media center technologies to provide different communication, broadcasting and entertainment services. The accommodation provided by the Fraunhofer IMS is suitable to create a realistic setting for prototyping scenarios.
